Crichton readers will be ashamed, no one else will - The Lost World: Jurassic Park Reviews
Not the best movie ever (Jurassic Park is) and not the worst (Jurassic Park 3 is). This is probably the 10th to 15th best movie ever, or at least I'd say. The dinosaurs continue to rock, and look exceptionally real. Jeff Goldblum and Julia Roberts are great actors. All of those scenes with velociraptors and tyrant lizards are ones for the ages. The story is pretty good, but the relationship with the book was awful. And not like the Two Towers relationship with Tolkien was awful. If it had been as bad a relationship, the Telletubbies would have come to Middle Earth and had snowball fights with the heroes before saying Let's be friends!, and then the Orcs would have gone to Harry Potter land and attack the people at Hogwarts on flying brooms. Lost World entirely lost the story it should have followed. Half of the characters from the book do not make it into the movie, and half of the people in the movie (including all of those InGen guys and John Hammond) were not in the exciting Michael Crichton book. What the Jurassic Park franchise should have done was have this be like Crichton's book, then have the story in this movie be the one for the third, and totally trash that awful story the real third had to offer. Yet this is the movies only fault. A fine addition to a movie collection, just like Jurassic Park .
